Match Report: St. Benedict’s 1-3 Naparima

Naparima College got back to winning ways after a lackluster performance at home in midweek as they overcame St. Benedict’s College 3-1 at Guaracara Park yesterday afternoon.

Mark Ramdeen was at the heart of the attacking force once again, causing insurmountable amounts of trouble for the SBC defence. The prolific winger bagged the first goal of the game, and his second of the season, in the 36th minute via a deflected shot from a free-kick at the top of the box.

But just before half-time, St. Benedict’s equalized through Jabari Jones as he pounced onto the rebound from a free-kick and beat Levi Fernandez on his near post from close range.

Naparima struggled to break St. Benedict’s down after half-time, but continued to put pressure on their La Romain opponents. Their territorial advantage paid off when Seon Shippley put the visitors back in front with a cheeky finish from 18 yards out in the 77th minute.

Six minutes later, the game-clincher against St. Mary’s on opening day, Isa Bramble, wrapped up the three points for Naparima once more; bursting away on a counter-attack from his own half and poking it home for Naparima’s third of the evening.

Naparima now hold on to second place in the table; two points behind their arch rival, Presentation. They face Fatima College at home in their next fixture on Wednesday.
