Naparima College made it four consecutive league wins with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Premier Division debutants, Bishop’s High School.
The Tobagonian outfit were favourites to be hammered by the two-time Premier Division winners, but they put up a fairly valiant fight against them on Naparima’s turf.
In the spell of complete Naparima domination, defender Tyrique Andrews rose high above everyone to head home from Ramdeen’s left-sided corner. Bishop’s defending was rather questionable as they virtually allowed Andrews to leap for the header.
However, Naparima’s opening goal made them complacent as their passes became sloppy and they speculatively blasted long ranged shots over the bar.
Three minutes after the interval, the hosts doubled their lead through Isa Bramble. The Naparima forward reacted quickly to a ricochet off a Bishop’s defender and smashed the ball into the low corner from 6 yards out. Bramble is now Naparima’s joint top scorer with 4 goals, alongside Mark Ramdeen.
Bishop’s San Fernando visit was made more miserable as they were penalized for handball in the penalty area in the 56th minute, and Jeron Pantor coolly converted the spot kick.
Naparima were awarded another penalty in the 70th minute when Molik Khan was hacked down in box. Khan himself stepped up to the task of conversion, but he saw his penalty saved after a weak kick towards the low left corner.
Khan almost made up for his poor penalty three minutes later but was brilliantly denied by the hands of the Bishop’s goalkeeper.
Naparima’s domination continued and they barely allowed their Tobagonian opponents any chances on goal. However, they too were barren, as they failed to add to their lead — similarly to the story of the first half. This may affect them later on in the league when goal difference really begins to matter.
In the end, Naparima’s three goals earned them three points and they continued their chase on Presentation, who won 5-0 at Valencia today.
